OUR VISION

The Justice Initiative envisions, a journey towards justice that

“upholds the inherent sacredness, respect and dignity of the human person irrespective of their colour or shade, region or religion, caste or creed and above all not for what they have done but for who they are;

is graceful and not condemning, merciful and not judgmental, kind and compassionate yet truthful;

reaches out to redeem, to rebuild, to restore and to reconcile;

journeys alongside and together with men, women, people of all genders and children, families, communities, systems, governments, and nations both for now and for generations to come…”

STUDENT ASSOCIATES PROGRAM

Even a single pebble dropped into the water creates ripples that travel far and wide. The Student Associates Program is an opportunity for the Justice Initiative Foundation to create those ripples of change by journeying alongside students from across the board. It’s designed to bring the best of both worlds together; to harness the potential, energy, innovation and creativity of the young minds, along with the rich experience and wisdom of those who have been making the journey as professionals, as people who have lived the consequences of their own conflicts with the law and several others.

TESTIMONIES

"I am delighted that the Justice Initiative Foundation has taken shape, emerging from the work of three individuals I have taught and known closely for many years – Cecilia Davies, Andria Lobo and Ashmira Hamirani. However, last year, I was thrilled when they informed me that they had decided to set up a new organisation called the Justice Initiative Foundation, to collectively channelize their passion for criminal justice issues. Knowing their dedication, commitment, and passion to work in the field of criminal justice social work, I am sure that the Justice Initiative Foundation will go a long way in charting new territories and engage with marginalised communities coming in contact with the criminal justice system. I wish them all the very best and would be keenly following their work in the coming years. I would be most happy to be of any support to them or their work as they embark on this new journey."

“The organisation has a very rooted field presence and works with a rights based approach. The Director of the organisation, Ms. Cecilia Davies is known to me over several years now and has a rich experience of working in the criminal justice system for about two decades. She has a unique combination of skills from her social work education in TISS and her additional law degree which has deepened her understanding of legal issues. The organisation has a specific focus on working with women from difficult circumstances which makes it all the more a much needed cause to support and encourage. A credible organisation with experienced staff that can be recommended for some crucial work on issues of prison reforms, rehabilitation of people released from prisons, process oriented research and action that seeks to shift power equations and create lasting impact on people's lives.”

"The Justice Initiative Foundation is a gateway to people who were in conflict with the law. It is a place where prisoners are treated as human beings. Where we can learn to be confident and walk with our head held high. It is a place where we can expect support and words of encouragement which helps us heal a long term injury."

Individual with a lived prison experience & TJI’s first staff member
